Old Indiana Fun-n-Water Park, originally known as Middle Country USA,[1] was an amusement park in Thorntown, Indiana, USA. Many of its rides were relocated from the defunct Shady Lake in Streetsboro, Ohio, USA. Old Indiana Fun-n-Water Park operated from 1985 to 1996.

History

Old Indiana Fun-n-Water Park officially opened on June 29, 1985.[2]

On August 11, 1996, a 4-year-old girl was paralyzed from the neck down and her 57-year-old grandmother died after the miniature train they were on derailed as it approached a curve. The two guests were crushed underneath the cars. Inspectors discovered that the ride was traveling faster than 12 mph.[3] The park was closed following the accident.

After the park's closure, Premier Parks bought the land of the park in October 1997. Shortly thereafter, rides from Opryland USA in Nashville, Tennessee, USA and later Riverside Park in Agawam, Massachusetts, USA in 2000 were stored on property.[4] Plans were in place to reopen the park in 1999, but they fell through as Premier Parks ended up buying the Six Flags chain in April 1998, concentrating on them instead of building an new amusement park. Eventually, most of the rides in storage were ultimately scrapped in 2002 or 2003 when Six Flags sold the property in July 2002, with all of them being completely removed by June 2006.
