Escape from Pompeii is a Shoot The Chute built by Intamin currently located at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA. It opened on April 29, 1995. The ride is themed around the August 24, 79 A.D. volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius, and is housed inside a large show building with fire effects and a collapsing statue.
History
Escape from Pompeii opened on April 29, 1995. Busch Gardens originally planned to hold a grand opening ceremony on April 28. However, this was postponed following the Oklahoma City bombing. Despite this, the ride opened on time.[1]
On July 21, 2018, one of the ride's flamethrowers caused the ride's show building to catch on fire. No one was in the park at the time and the fire was put out quickly.[2]
