Krampus Expédition is a steel water roller coaster located at Nigloland in Dolancourt, Grand Est, France.

History

For the 2020 season, Nigloland moved Grande Roue on the spot previously occupied by Bobsleigh, enlarging the expansion pad near Alpina Blitz.

Hints of a big new attraction coming to Nigloland in 2021 began to appear in early 2020, as the new park map was teasing a new for 2021 ride on this expansion pad and the construction of a trench near Alpina Blitz was spotted.

The new ride was announced to be a coaster by Rodolphe Gelis on 21 May 2020 during a Coaster World live that was organised to show the results of a planet coaster contest related to Nigloland. He also did a construction tour during the same live.[1]

Soon it was noticed that there were 4 bolts on each footer, which is a defining feature of the manufacturer Mack Rides.

In June 2020, two large holes were being excavated, this led people to believe that these were basins and, also because Nigloland had been rumored for a new Water Ride for years, that a Water roller coaster was coming.

It was found in September 2020 that the park trademarked the name Krampus Expédition.[2]

On 22 October 2020, the first track piece was spotted on site.[3] Track installation was completed on 27 November 2020.[4]

On 10 December 2020, Nigloland released a press kit with concept arts, stats and other information about the upcoming coaster.[5]

The first tests were spotted on 20 February 2021.[6]

A media day was held on 11 June 2021, during which many influencers were able to discover the new coaster and visit the backstage of the ride. Krampus Expédition opened to the public the following day on 12 June 2021.[7]

Queue

The queue line for Krampus Expedition begins with an outdoor section near the Krampus head, allowing guests to view the splashdown. This is followed by a staircase leading to a balcony, which takes guests to a walkway above the station. Next, guests enter a dark attic, where they must navigate around piles of furniture. Finally, guests are led downstairs to a room with relics from previous expeditions, including the skeleton of a young Krampus. A small outdoor extended queue area connected to this room can be used in case of high attendance.

Station

The station has separate loading and unloading platforms, with the unloading platform also acting as an unnoticeable transfer path as a wall is attached to the mobile assembly.

There are also retractable walkways between the two sides of the station, allowing for safer and more efficient single operator operations when park attendance is low. The walkways extend when trains are not moving in the station and retract for dispatch.

Trains

6 cars. Riders are arranged 2 across in 4 rows, for a total of 8 riders per car. The trains are themed as rafts.

Ride experience

The ride begins with a short floating section that takes the boats from the station to the beginning of the chain lift hill. During this lift, riders can hear the ride's soundtrack as the speakers are installed on to it. The coaster section begins with a twisting drop followed by an elongated hill leading to a turn that lines up the boat for the final drop. This drop has been shaped to have a second small dip in the middle, and is followed by a tunnel up a hill through the Krampus head just before the splashdown. The remainder of the ride consists of a scenic return to the station.
