Raven is a wooden roller coaster located at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana, USA. It has repeatedly won the Best Wooden Coaster Golden Ticket Award. The ride opened in 1995 and features a 120 foot long underground tunnel. It is named after Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven".
History
Custom Coasters International, Inc. met with Holiday World to discuss a new roller coaster in June 1994 and visited the park to survey the site the following month. CCI then collaborated with Holiday World, and in particular Will Koch, to create Raven's design.[1]
Groundbreaking for the Raven occurred in September 1994.[2] Raven officially opened on May 6, 1995, following a media day on May 3.[3] The ride's name was suggested by Amusement Business editor Tim O'Brien.[4]
When the ride first opened, it featured just one train. A second train was installed in 2005 to coincide with its 10th anniversary. Space had been set aside for a future transfer table when the ride was originally designed.[5]
The ride was designed an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark in 2016.[6]
During the 2020-2021 off-season, Raven was given a refurbishment. The ride's trains were repainted with wings on both sides and 25% of the track was replaced.[7]
New pre-cut track from The Gravity Group, LLC was added to the ride in 2025.[8][9]
