Lap bars are a type of restraint used on many roller coasters. They are held onto the lap of riders. Most lap bars make a clank sound, while some don't make this sound. They have the ability to give riders a smoother ride experience.

- In the early 2000s, Premier Rides started to replace over-the-shoulder restraints with lap bars on Flight of Fear and its similar coaster at Kings Island and Kings Dominion. For the 2001 Fright Fest event, Batman And Robin: The Chiller at Six Flags Great Adventure replaced the over-the-shoulder restraints with lap bars on the Robin train, and as for the Batman train for the 2002 season. In 2002, Mr. Freeze and its mirror image at Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis replaced the over-the-shoulder restraints with lap bars, as well as Joker's Jinx at Six Flags America and Poltergeist at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
