Six Flags Fiesta Texas is a theme park located in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The park is the major entertainment component of USAA's "La Cantera", a 1,600 acre (647 hectare) master-planned development in northwest San Antonio. "La Cantera" means "the quarry" in Spanish and refers to the former use of the property on which the development sits.

History

Aerial view of the park

On March 14, 1992, the park officially opened to the public as Fiesta Texas, with shows and other events being the main source of entertainment, and Rattler being the only major coaster in operation during park debut.

In January 1996, USAA announced that Six Flags would operate the park beginning with the 1996 season with the option to purchase it within a decade-long priod.[1] The park was rebranded under the Six Flags moniker as Six Flags Fiesta Texas, becoming the company's eighth theme park property and the only one added during the Time Warner Entertainment ownership.

Following Six Flags' sale to Premier Parks, the company announced in November 1998 they had fully purchased out the property from USAA.[2] For the park's 1999 season, the park was branded as Fiesta Texas - A Six Flags Theme Park to avoid confusion with Six Flags Over Texas located nearby, but the park's official name remained as Six Flags Fiesta Texas.[3]
