A diving roller coaster is a type of roller coaster with vertical (or almost vertical) drops and exceptionally-wide trains which seat more than four riders per row. All diving roller coasters hold the train for a few seconds at the top of the drop.

This type of roller coaster was introduced by Bolliger & Mabillard with their Dive Coaster product. The first installation was Oblivion at Alton Towers, which opened in 1998. Subsequent Dive Coaster installations have added additional vertical drops, floorless trains, and inversions.

There are two diving roller coasters that are not built by Bolliger & Mabillard. Vertical Roller Coaster at Great Xindong Tourist World in China opened in 2018 and was built by Golden Horse. HangTime at Knott's Berry Farm also opened in 2018 and was built by Gerstlauer.
