Beast in Darkness (Japanese: ビースト・イン・ダークネス) was a Walk-Through and Tracked Dark Ride hybrid attraction formerly located at Tokyo Joypolis in Odaiba, Minato, Tokyo, Japan.
The attraction opened with Tokyo Joypolis on 12 July 1996.[1] It was the first, and one of only two installments of the respective attraction. The other being located at SegaWorld London and later Funland.
In July 1998, the attraction was replaced with a new walk-through experience entitled Terrors of America.[2]
Experience
Beast in Darkness was split into two different sections: a walk-through attraction where guests would be attacked by the titular Beast (through projection mapping technology) and a tracked dark ride experience where the sounds of the Beast could be heard.
On 25 April 1998, the attraction was revamped to focus solely on the walk-through portion, with the tracked dark ride portion becoming a standalone attraction named Horror Ride. To make up for the ride's reduction in size, additional animatronics of the Beast were added.[3]
