Ghost Hunters is a Tracked Dark Ride product from Sega, and produced through their AM5 division.

Based on the company's lightgun toy of the same name, the attraction combines the traditional dark ride with augmented reality and light gun shooter gameplay, where the moving ride vehicle will stop at points of the route to allow the shooting game element to take place throughout.

Revisions

Ghost Hunters

The original version of the attraction was featured at many Galbo and Joypolis venues in Japan in addition to being seen at a small number of non-Sega venues, as well as SegaWorld London and Sega World Sydney.

Ghost Hunters II

Fully titled Ghost Hunters II - The Labyrinth of Poisonous Moths, this software rendition replaced the original Ghost Hunters ride at Osaka ATC Galbo and Yokohama Joypolis in September 1995, and was soon expanded to other Joypolis venues. It featured an altered storyline and brand new theming, but otherwise featured the same gameplay.

Ghost Hunters DX

Another upgraded rendition - Ghost Hunters DX, was located in Fukuoka Joypolis as an opening day attraction in 1996. It was similar to the other renditions of the ride aside from some minor differences to the original version's game and theming. However, it was downgraded to Ghost Hunters II not long after.

A duplicate was originally intended to be located at Shinjuku Joypolis, but instead went with Treasure Panic.

Treasure Panic

Treasure Panic debuted at Tokyo Joypolis in July 1996 and was later seen at Shinjuku Joypolis under the name Ghost Hunters - Treasure Panic in 1997. This version of the ride changes the setting to a sunken ship helmed by enemies and ghosts, while players battle against the ghost captain to obtain the buried treasure.

The Tokyo Joypolis rendition was removed sometime after 2000, while the Shinjuku rendition was downgraded to Ghost Hunters II at one point.

Ghost Pirates

Ghost Pirates was located at the Sega World Hakkeijima Carnival House game center at Sea Paradise. It is unknown if this was a clone of Treasure Panic or a different rendition outright. It was added to the venue in 1999 and removed within an unknown timeframe.

Completed attractions

At least twelve installations have existed over the years. Some of them have been relocated or seen at Non-Sega owned venues. Two of the standard installations were relocated to Yokohama Dreamland , as well as YoYo Land in Thailand.

The only installation to remain in operation is the model at Haailand, which was formerly located at Sega World Sydney.
