Sesame Place San Diego is a theme park and water park located in Chula Vista, California, USA. The site of the park previously operated as Aquatica San Diego. After the 2020 season, the existing attractions were incorporated into a new combined water and theme park.
History
In 1997, White Water Canyon water park opened. The project was plagued with financial problems during construction and fell in to bankruptcy a year after opening. The park was purchased by Cedar Fair for $11.5 million in December 1999, who reopened it as Knott's Soak City on May 27, 2000.[1] In November 2012, it was purchased by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, who refurbished the park and opened it on June 1, 2013 as Aquatica.[2]
In October 2019, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment announced that their second Sesame Place theme park would open in 2021 on the site of Aquatica San Diego. The new park will be a combined water and theme park.[3]
In September 2021, it was announced that the park would be opening in 2022.[4]
