Sesame Place is an upcoming theme park located in Chula Vista, California, USA. The site of the park currently operates as Aquatica San Diego. After the 2020 season, the existing attractions will be incorporated into a new combined water and theme park.
In 1997, White Water Canyon water park opened. The project was plagued with financial problems during construction and fell in to bankruptcy a year after opening. The park was purchased by Cedar Fair for $11.5 million in December 1999, who reopened it as Knott's Soak City. In November 2012, it was purchased by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, who refurbished the park and opened it in May 2013 as Aquatica.
In October 2019, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment announced that their second Sesame Place theme park would open in 2021 on the site of Aquatica San Diego. The new park will open in 2021 and will be a combined water and theme park.
