Wild Thing is a steel hyper roller coaster located at Valleyfair in Shakopee, Minnesota, USA. It was built by Morgan and opened on May 11, 1996. The ride's success led to the opening of Steel Force at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania the following year and Mamba at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri in 1998.
History
Wild Thing opened on May 11, 1996.
Design
The ride has an out and back layout with a large turnaround.
Trains
3 trains with 6 cars per train. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 3 rows, for a total of 36 riders per train.
Incident
Eighteen riders were injured on Sunday, May 21, 2006 when the final car separated from the rest of the train and came to a halt partially tipped over.[1] The subsequent investigation was unable to determine the cause of the incident, and Wild Thing reopened on June 1.[2]
