Corkscrew with Bayerncurve is the name of the first roller coaster product by Dutch firm Vekoma. There were eight installations, two of which are still operating.

History

The first Corkscrew with Bayerncurve model was Super Wirbel at Holiday Park in Germany. It was also the first inverting roller coaster in Germany, one of the first in Europe and the first roller coaster by Vekoma.

In the mid-nineties, Corkscrew at Alton Towers received new trains from Vekoma. On Super Wirbel, Vekoma replaced the train bodies for the 2003 season. For the 2009 season, Corkscrew at Genting Theme Park also received new trains of a more modern style from Vekoma.

Tornado at Walibi Belgium was the first installation to be scrapped. It closed in 2002 and was demolished in January 2006 after attempts to sell it were unsuccessful.

The double inversion of Corkscrew at Alton Towers was kept and erected at the park entrance.

The installation at Alton Towers closed after the 2008 season. The double corkscrew element was kept and placed at the park entrance. This practice was repeated at Holiday Park. After the closure of Super Wirbel, the double corkscrew element was placed at the entrance to Sky Scream, Super Wirbel's successor.

Design

The main element of the model is the Double corkscrew which inverts riders twice. The model also features a Bayerncurve which is essentially a helix which moves up and down.

Trains

All installations opened with trains built by Arrow Dynamics. They had the following design:

2 trains with 6 cars per train. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows, for a total of 24 riders per train.
