Gangsta Granny: The Ride is a dark ride located at Alton Towers in Alton, Staffordshire, England, UK. The theme is based on the Gangsta Granny children's novel by David Walliams.

The ride was built by Garmendale Engineering, and is one of their Spin Master models.[1]

History

On 29 May 2020, Alton Towers announced that the opening of the ride would be pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In March 2021, it was announced that Gangsta Granny: The Ride would officially open on 17 May 2021, along with the rest of The World of David Walliams, pending the easing of restrictions relating to the coronavirus pandemic.[2] David Walliams visited the attraction on 27 April and was one of the first riders, along with six local schoolchildren.[3] The attraction was duly opened on 17 May 2021.[4]

Theme

The ride is described as "multi-sensory". It sees the characters from Gangsta Granny attempt "the greatest heist in the history of the world": stealing the Crown Jewels.[2] The surrounding area opened with the attraction and is dedicated to David Walliams and his books.[5]
