The ride was first teased in February 2024 when Alton Towers announced a brand new ride coming to the Forbidden Valley section of the park.[1] This was confirmed by a planning application made by Alton Towers for an 18m structure, including a 4.8m platform with footpath underneath.[2] The ride will open on 15 March 2025.[3]
The ride type was confirmed to be a Top Spin in April when a sound assessment document was posted on the planning permission portal which used another one of Merlin's Top Spins for sound comparison.[2] In November, the pieces of the ride started appearing in the car park, confirming it to be a Suspended model[4]
In January 2025, the park announced that the ride would be named 'Toxicator' with riders facing down above a '“bubbling pool of highly toxic alien acid”.[5]
