History
Sega World Cospal (Japanese: セガワールド コスパル) was a game center located in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
History
Created as part of a joint venture between Sega Enterprises and Shizukatsu Co, Ltd., Sega World Cospal opened on 20 September 1991. Renovated from a former bowling alley,[1] it was the largest game center to have opened in Japan at the time, sizing at nearly 2,000sq.m. on over three floors. Being a larger game center, it housed one of Sega's earliest attraction formats - CCD Cart, as well as several R-360 cabinets.[2]
At some point, the attractions were removed from the site, and within an unknown timeframe, was renamed Sega World Shizuoka (Japanese: セガワールド静岡). The game center closed on 5 January 2020.[3] After closure, the building was demolished and the site was redeveloped as a new entertainment complex which housed a new Sega/GiGO game center and opened on 25 February 2022.[4]
