Old Mill is a Dark Boat Ride currently located at Kennywood West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, USA. The ride has had several names and themes, including Garfield's Nightmare.

History

The ride opened in 1901. It originally included a Shoot The Chute-style drop at the end.[1]

In 1906 the ride was renamed Fairyland Floats.[2] The attraction was renamed Panama Canal after this, but returned to the Old Mill name in 1914.[3]

The ride was renamed Rapids Gorge in 1915 and its channel was deepened. New scenic effects were added by the Zarro Amusement Device Company.[4]

In 1917, the ride was rebuilt and renamed Fairyland Floats.[4]

New boats were purchased from Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1921.[4]

The ride was rebuilt and enlarged in 1926 by the park under the supervision of the park's maintenance supervisor.[5]

New scenes were added to the ride in 1929.[6]

The ride changed its stunts in 1933.[7]

For the 1940 season, the theme was overhauled with characters including Popeye added.[8]

In 1974, the ride was re-themed and renamed Hardheaded Harold's Horrendously Humorous Haunted Hideaway[9].

The ride was rethemed in 2004 to Garfield's Nightmare, themed after the comic strip character Garfield.

The ride was rethemed in 2020 to its current name and theme.
