History

Waltzer in 2016

Waltzer was originally built for Jimmy Shipley of Drayton Manor Theme Park, Staffordshire in April 1980.[1] It replaced the earlier Roundabout Waltzer that had operated at the park from 1965 until 1979.[2] Shipley was a concessionaire at the park and operated a number of rides, however at the end of the 1981 season the Waltzer along with Shipley’s other attractions passed to the Bryan family, owners of the park itself. The ride would operate with the same name and decoration until the end of the 1992 season.

For the 1993 season the Waltzer became the Black Revolver, and was now fully enclosed by a building to become a dark ride. It followed a loose Wild West theme that the Action Park area it was situated in also carried. In around 2003, the cars from the scrapped Waltzer at Butlin’s Skegness were added to the ride. It would continue to operate in this guise until the end of the 2010 season, when the ride was removed from the park. In November 2010 the ride was sold to showman Ross Woodford.[3]
