History

The Skyflyer was originally opened at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach in 1987. It only operated for two seasons before moving to Drayton Manor Theme Park, where it was opened by former Dr Who actor Jon Pertwee in 1989 [1]. The ride served the park for a number of years, however by the early 2000s was suffering mechanical issues, resulting in noticeable downtime. The park resolved this by disposing of the ride at the end of the 2003 season, replacing it with an updated version from Fabbri called Pandemonium for the 2004 season.

The ride was sold to Mondial (who had originally developed the ride type in conjunction with Vekoma), who refurbished the ride back to reliable working order [2]. It then returned to the UK for a single season, being operated by Michael Harrison at Bayside Fun Park in Bridlington during 2006. Whilst stationed at Bridlington the ride suffered vandalism, with the perpetrators loosening bolts on the ride [3]. The ride then had spells at Śląskie Wesołe Miasteczko in Poland, followed by Vidámpark in Hungary, being in place there by 2010 or earlier. In 2013 it returned to Slaskie Wesole Miasteczko.
