Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom is a Drop Tower located at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, USA. It is the world's third tallest drop tower, with a height of 400 feet. The attraction uses the structure of Superman: Escape From Krypton, which opened in 1997. The ride is 15 feet shorter than Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, which is 15 feet shorter than Orlando Free Fall, the world's tallest drop tower.
History
On September 1, 2011, Six Flags Magic Mountain announced that they would be adding Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom.[1]
Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom opened on July 7, 2012 as the world's tallest drop tower.[2]
At the top, riders hear Lex Luthor (Fred Tatiascore)'s voice saying "Today is your lucky day; today your life changes forever. And this may very well be the highest point of your insignificant existence!", laughing evilly, and then a brief period of silence before they drop.
In 2018, virtual reality headsets were added to Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, the ride's VR storyline was DC Super Heroes: Drop of Doom,[3] which involved LexBots causing chaos with an anti-gravity ray. The drop was your plunge back to the ground once Superman and Wonder Woman (who were presented as a couple in the New 52) turned the ray off. This storyline could be found on other drop towers at other Six Flags parks across the country. In 2019, the VR experiences were removed from this ride and Revolution.
