Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom was a Drop Tower located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, USA. It was the world's tallest drop tower with a drop height of 415 feet, 15 feet taller than Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom at Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is the world's third tallest drop tower. It used the structure of Kingda Ka, the world's tallest roller coaster. Unlike Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, which is attached to the back of Superman: Escape From Krypton, Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom was directly beneath Kingda Ka. In 2021, approval by New Jersey state authorities was given for Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom and Kingda Ka to run simultaneously.[1]
History
Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom was announced on August 29, 2013.[2]
The ride was first slated to open during the Memorial Day Weekend of 2014.[3] Two weeks before opening the new attraction along with the reopening of Kingda Ka, Six Flags Great Adventure delayed the opening due to the weather during the construction of the ride with its extreme heights. Despite the delayed opening in late May, Kingda Ka reopened only during the weekends of the summer until the opening of the drop tower. On June 26, 2014, Six Flags Great Adventure announced that the ride would open on July 4, 2014.[4][5]
Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom last operated during the first part of the 2024 season.[6] On November 14, 2024, the park announced its permanent closure. Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, alongside Kingda Ka, Green Lantern, Parachute Training Center: Edwards AFB Jump Tower and Twister were removed to make way for a "multi world record breaking launched roller coaster" in 2026.[7]
Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom was imploded alongside Kingda Ka on February 28, 2025.[8][9]
