Space Shuttle was a Ranger built by Intamin previously located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, USA. It opened in 1985 and closed in 2007.

History

The ride originally opened in 1985 as Looping Starship. It would undergo some modifications during its first few years of operation. In 1987, netting was installed on the ride that stretched across the passenger compartment to catch falling objects. The next year, a metal screen was added above the seats. Then in 1990, the attraction received a Looney Tunes entrance sign.[1]

For the 1993 season, the section where Looping Starship was located became Movietown. Looping Starship was renamed to Space Shuttle. The queue line was rerouted with its entrance being a highly themed corridor located behind the ride featuring pictures including some from the 1983 film The Right Stuff.[1]

Space Shuttle was dismantled in 1996 to get ready for the construction of Batman And Robin: The Chiller. In 1997, the ride was relocated to the Boardwalk section behind Great American Scream Machine.[1]

In the following years, Space Shuttle would begin to have technical issues. It had been going through several extensive rehabs and often faced large amounts of downtime. The ride would sit close for the entire 2004 season to undergo an extended refurbishment. While Space Shuttle reopened in 2005, it would continue to be closed for days or weeks.[1]

Space Shuttle was finally demolished in 2007. The former queue line sat abandoned until the opening of Green Lantern in 2011.[1]
