Mistral Flying Machine was a Flying Scooters ride built by US manufacturer Bisch Rocco that was formerly located at Pleasureland Southport in Southport, Merseyside, England, UK.
History
The ride originally operated at Clementon Park in Clementon, New Jersey, USA as Flying Scooters from the early 1950s until closing in 1987.
From here, the ride was stored until it was purchased by former Blackpool Pleasure Beach CEO Geoffrey Thompson somepoint in the late 1990s and was exported to the UK. It was later rebuilt and reopened at Pleasureland Southport in Southport, Merseyside, England in 1997 as Mistral Flying Machine. It operated there from 1997 until it closed in 2005.
The ride was left disassembled thoughout the 2006 season. Pleasureland Southport would eventually close permanently by Blackpool Pleasure Beach on 5 September 2006.
After the park's closure, the ride was purchased and dismantled by The Save Dreamland Campaign in June 2007 along with a few other former rides from the park, being relocated to the site of Dreamland Margate as part of a planned heritage park that was proposed by The Dreamland Trust.[1][2][3] It was subsequently left in storage.
In 2015, the ride was deemed to have key parts missing and scrapped via inspection. It was also determined that the ride's capacity and nature was unsuitable for the reopening Dreamland Margate in 2015. The ride was ultimately never restored and was instead planned for upcycling and theming purposes for the park.[4][5]
