Hornet's Nest (originally known as Chaos) was a Chaos ride from US manufacturer Chance Rides that was previously located at Lightwater Valley in Ripon, North Yorkshire, England. It was also previously located at Pleasureland Southport. It was the only Chance Chaos ride ever built in the UK, before another Chaos was exported to the UK from the USA.

History

The attraction first opened in May 1998 at Pleasureland Southport as Chaos.[1] It replaced the Satellite, which was relocated to sister park Frontierland Family Theme Park.

It operated until the owners at the time, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, closed the park after the 2006 season on 5 September 2006. It was then immediately put up for sale after the park's closure, awaiting a buyer.

Later that month, it was purchased by Lightwater Valley who planned to reopen it in 2007.[2] Due to technical problems, the opening was delayed over a year, and the ride finally opened in spring 2008 under the name Hornet's Nest.[3][4]

It only operated briefly before being closed for maintenance. The park had to extensively rebuild the ride over a long period, including replacing many issues, such as the restraints and faulty electrics. Hornet's Nest eventually operated again in May 2009 after yet another year long closure, following another rebuild led via a maintenance program which saw the ride's central arm repaired and more restraint system fixes.

Furthermore, Hornet's Nest also received an "Document of Conformality".[5]

After being closed again, due to more problems in June, the park announced that the ride would be removed from the park.[6]
