Nickelodeon Universe Mall of America is an indoor amusement park located within the Mall of America, in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA.
History
The park first opened as Knott's Camp Snoopy on August 11, 1992.[1] The park was based on the classic Peanuts comic strip and featured a giant Snoopy balloon above its central water fountain. Some of its rides included the Kite Eating Tree (a swing ride based on the tree Charlie Brown's kites get stuck in), the Linus Loop (a miniature Ferris wheel themed to Charlie's best friend, Linus Van Pelt) and the Snoopy Bounce (an inflatable Snoopy kids could bounce in.) The gift shop sold Peanuts merchandise like video tapes and stuffed toys.
In January 2005, it was announced that the mall would take over operations of the park in-house from Cedar Fair after its operations lease expired in March.[2] Due to this; on January 10, 2006, it was announced that the park would temporarily rebrand as "The Park at MoA" beginning January 19, after licensing rights between the park and then-Peanuts owners United Media fell through following the operations sale.[citation needed]
In 2007, Nickelodeon announced it had struck a deal with mall owner Triple Five to take over the park. It reopened as Nickelodeon Universe on March 15, 2008.[3] The park now featured rides based on Nickelodeon shows, such as SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge (a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter themed to two classic SpongeBob episodes) and Avatar Airbender (an Intamin Surfrider themed to Avatar: The Last Airbender.) Existing rides also got Nickelodeon themes, such as Danny Phantom Ghost Zone (a Danny Phantom retheme of the Chance Rides Falling Star) and Tak Attack (a Tak retheme of the Zamperla Rotoshake.)
