M&D's Scotland's Theme Park (or M&D's for short) is an amusement park in Scotland, UK. As well as the outdoor amusement park, it also housed a bowling alley, soft play area, crazy golf and an indoor zoo called "Amazonia". The company also owned an adjacent hotel.
History
After a train derailed on the Tsunami roller coaster on June 26, 2016, the park was closed until further notice. The indoor attractions reopened on June 30. The theme park did not reopen until July 22, nearly a month after the incident. The roller coaster was removed after being standing but not operating for the remainder of the season.
In September 2018, the park received permission to go ahead with a major expansion which would have seen a new roller coaster, an all-weather dome, outdoor events space and an expansion to the hotel.[1] However, these plans never came to fruition.
On 17 March 2020, M&D's announced that the complex would close indefinitely and that staff would be temporarily laid off due to a downturn in business associated with the coronavirus pandemic.[2] On 23 April the company which owns the park announced that it had gone into administration and that 165 staff would be made redundant.[3]
In May 2020, the same owners who ran M&D's has re-branded the company into Loch View Theme Park (SCOTLAND) LTD[4] with the company being registered on Companies House in February 2020. M&D'S Scotland's Theme Park was still the parks name, and the media found out in May 2020. With no new buyers in sight; the current owners, the Taylor family, bought parts of the business themselves and attempted to reopen after the coronavirus pandemic was over. They also said all the staff who became redundant were guaranteed to receive their job back. Some parts of the business reopened after the administration of M&D Leisure with the replacement of the administration notice on their website with a Covid - 19 Notice stating the theme park, Cosmic Bowling, Krazy Kongo and Amazonia will remain shut until government guidelines state that theme parks can reopen.[5]
The amusement park reopened on 24 August 2020.
In recent years, M&Ds have been selling their own rides and attractions and bringing in rides from the fair circuit keeping their ride line-up fresh; this means that the rides will be different every few months with some rides only coming for Christmas & New Year, bonfire events, etc.
