Rocket Jets was a Jets ride located at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, United States. Opening with the 1960's Tomorrowland overhaul on July 2, 1967, the ride was situated on top of the PeopleMover track. It closed on January 6, 1997.
History
Rocket jets opened to guests on July 2, 1967. The ride was unique at the time for featuring a unique placement on top of the PeopleMover track system. It operated for many years without change.
On January 6, 1997, Rocket Jets closed to guests. Instead of demolishing, though, it was converted into the Observatron, which spun around and played music.[1] It was very unreliable, and in 2006 the Observatron was repaired,[2] although it has not run consistently in many years, leaving it as a static prop on top of the abandoned Rocket Rods station.
A similar ride exists below the PeopleMover station and in front of the entrance to Tomorrowland that is the same ride type, although that ride is new and is based off the ride located at Disneyland Paris.
