Launch Pad (formerly known as PlayStation: The Ride and later as Ice Blast) is a Drop Tower built by US manufacturer S&S Worldwide currently located at Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, UK. It opened in 1997 and is 54.9 metres tall.
History
The ride was opened on 3 June 1997 by the Irish boy band Boyzone. At the time, it was called Playstation: The Ride.[1] It is situated where the Egg Scrambler was previously.[2] For the 2000 season, the ride was renamed Ice Blast. It has been sponsored by the Tango Ice Blast drink. The layout of the ride was changed such that there were two sides with two seats and two sides with four seats. Previously, the ride vehicle had three seats per side.[3]
On 2 March 2024, park management tweeted that Ice Blast would open later in the season as the park was waiting on parts for the ride.[4]
A tourism magazine published in December 2024 revealed that the ride would be renamed Launch Pad for 2025 and that a new pressure cylinder had been installed.[5]
