Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum is a steel wild mouse roller coaster located at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts, USA.
History
The ride was originally built at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky, where it was called Road Runner Express. It featured a highly-themed queue line along with themed elements. It was built by Maurer AG and operated from May 2000 to 2009, when Six Flags closed Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in February 2010 due to their bankruptcy.[1]
In July 2010, the ride formed part of a deal between Six Flags and the Kentucky State Fair Board, which allowed Six Flags to retain ownership of the coaster and to move it to another one of their parks, along with exiting their operations lease for Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.[2]
In late 2010, the ride was then subsequently dismantled to be sent to Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts.[3][4] The ride was built on the concrete pad originally planned for The Dark Knight in 2008, which was later cancelled during construction.
Back at Kentucky Kingdom, Cyclos and Professor John's Flying Machines later operated where Road Runner Express previously stood.
On October 27, 2010, vertical construction of the ride started at Six Flags New England.[5]
On November 6, 2010, it was reported that the ride's name would be Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum.[6] This was confirmed on February 7, 2011.[7]
The coaster reopened at Six Flags New England on April 16, 2011.
