La Casona de la Abuela was a Junior Whip built by US manufacturer W.F. Mangels previously located at Six Flags Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico.
History:
The ride originally opened at Six Flags AstroWorld when the park opened in 1968. It was originally located in the park's Children's World section at opening and was called Junior Whip. By 1980, the Children's World area was rethemed to The Magical World of Marvel McFey.[1] In 1984, the Children's World area was closed to make room for XLR-8 and all of the children's rides were relocated to a plot of land vacated adjacent to the European Village area on the former Le Taxis site. A new children's area opened, known as Enchanted Kingdom featuring all these children's rides.[2] As a result, Junior Whip was renamed to Yosemite Sam Dry Gulch Pass after the character Yosemite Sam at some point around 1985 when the Marvel McFey characters were replaced by the Looney Tunes characters following Six Flags acquisition of the rights from Marriott upon acquiring Six Flags Great America in 1984.[3] By 1995, the Enchanted Kingdom area was renamed to Bugs Bunny World and Yosemite Sam Dry Gulch Pass was renamed to The King's Treasure Carriage.[4] In 1996, Bugs Bunny World was renamed to Looney Tunes Town and the ride was renamed to Foghorn's Freeway after the character Foghorn Leghorn.[5][6] It would continue to operate until Six Flags AstroWorld closed on October 30, 2005.[7]
Six Flags would relocate many of the park's rides to other properties, including the children rides in Looney Tunes Town. Foghorn's Freeway was relocated to Six Flags Mexico in 2006. It was installed in the El Circo de Bugs Bunny (Bugs Bunny's Circus) children area and was renamed La Casona de la Abuela.[8] It would operate there until 2018 when it and majority of the rides in the area were removed as part of the area's retheme into Bugs Bunny Boomtown and the addition of another children's area known as DC Super Friends. It was then scrapped.[9]
