SkyScreamer was a Freefall ride located at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, USA. It operated from 1983 to 1997.[1][2]
History:
SkyScreamer opened at Six Flags AstroWorld in 1983. It was a very popular attraction in the park for about 15 years until 1997 when Dungeon Drop, a Intamin Giant Drop freefall ride opened, rendering it obsolete. It was subsequently removed at the end of the 1997 season to make room for Taz's Texas Tornado, a portable Schwarzkopf looping roller coaster which operated on it's former site from 1998 until 2000. SWAT and Diablo Falls were installed on the former site for the 2003 season to celebrate Six Flags AstroWorld's 35th anniversary.[3]
Meanwhile, SkyScreamer was sent to Six Flags St. Louis after it was removed from Six Flags AstroWorld, but it was never re-assembled and was later eventually scrapped. (Ironically enough, after Six Flags AstroWorld closed, their other drop tower attraction by Intamin, Dungeon Drop was also eventually sent to this park and reopened there in 2006) It's cars were later sent to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey for use on their Stuntman's Freefall, but they were never used on the ride, having sat in the park's maintenance yard for many years.[4] In 2001, the cars from SkyScreamer were eventually spotted at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Aurora, Ohio for use as spare parts on Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall, which was eventually removed in 2005.[5]
