Colossus was a Ferris Wheel built by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma that was previously located at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts, USA. It carried 240 people at a time.

History

The ride first opened in March 1980 as Big Wheel at Morecambe Pleasure Park in Morecambe, Lancashire, England, UK.

The ride was controversial when it was installed and located at the park due to complaints from local residents due to its height and privacy concerns. Another problem encountered were disagreements with local town planners and the park's owner Geoffrey Thompson whether or not the ride needed planning permission for installation and for park operation.

As a result, It operated until October 1982, after which Geoffrey Thompson decided to relocate the ride to brief sister park Magic Harbor in Surfside Beach, South Carolina, USA, where it opened in 1983 as Giant Wheel.

After park owner Blackpool Pleasure Beach closed the park by 1986, the ride was later sold and was purchased by Riverside Park in Agawam, Massachusetts, USA in 1986. It reopened there as Colossus in 1987. It continued to operate at the park, which later became Six Flags New England in 2000, until it closed in 2005. It was removed before the 2006 season. It was then scrapped.
