History

Lucozade Space Shot is visible to the right of this photograph

The attraction was announced in January 2002 and originally opened as Lucozade Space Shot at Pleasureland Southport in Southport, Merseyside, England, UK in 2002, sponsored by Lucozade.[1][2]

Pleasureland Southport was closed permanently on 5 September 2006 by its owner, Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Lucozade Space Shot was then put up for sale.

Barnstormer at Loudoun Castle

In October 2006, Lucozade Space Shot was sold to Loudoun Castle in Galston, East Ayrshire, Scotland, UK. The ride was announced by the park on 25 October 2006.[3]

The first piece arrived at the park on 10 November 2006.[4] The rest of the tower parts arrived by December 2006. The name Barnstormer was considered around this time and it was decided that the ride would be built at the back of the Dougal McDougal's Farm section of the park.[5]

On 26 February 2007, it was reported that the concrete foundations were in place. The compressor room was nearly completed and new cables arrived on site at the park. The ride's name was also confirmed as Barnstormer.[6]

On 21 March 2007, Barnstormer's vertical construction started when the first section of the tower was installed into place at the park.[7] On 5 April 2007, Barnstormer's tower structure was topped off.[8]

On 23 May 2007, Barnstormer was officially opened by the Scottish pop duo The MacDonald Bros.[9]

Barnstormer operated until the park permanently closed in September 2010.[10] The ride remained standing until 2013 or later until it was sold and exported.[11]

It reopened as Pemburu Badai (Hurricane Hunter) at Trans Studio Bandung in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia in 2018.
