Great America Raceway was a Track Ride built by US manufacturer Arrow Dynamics that was previously located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, USA. The ride featured the company's Antique Touring Spec. vehicles.[1]
History
Great America Raceway opened on May 29, 1976 as one of the park's several opening day attractions.
The track was originally built as a figure eight with an overpass, but it was modified to a more circular layout in order to accommodate Splashwater Falls in 1987.
Following the ride's closure in 2010, some of its cars have been used as props for the Six Saint’s Cemetery, a graveyard paying tribute to the park’s defunct attractions Fright Fest.[2] The epitath on the ride's mock grave reads: "X-Flight marks the spot!",[3] referring to X-Flight which opened in 2012 where Great American Raceway previously stood.
Until 2023, a portion of the ride's track could be seen, untouched, under American Eagle's queue line.[2] This was removed to make room for Sky Striker.
