Power Dive was a Ranger previously located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, USA. It operated from 1987 to 2001. It was a Looping Starship installation from Swiss firm Intamin.
History
Power Dive opened on May 8, 1987.[1][2] It opened on the site that previously housed The Edge, which was removed the year prior.
Over the years the ride would suffer downtime and maintenance issues and ridership would dwindle due to the discomfort the ride’s lap bars would put on riders.[citation needed] Because of all this, Power Dive was removed in 2001, but ride components remained in the park's boneyard through at least October 2008.[3] The ride's site remained vacant until the opening of King Chaos in 2004.
The ride is remembered with a mock gravestone in the Six Saint’s Cemetery, a graveyard paying tribute to Six Flags Great America’s defunct attractions during the park’s Fright Fest event. The epitaph reads: “Edged out by the king!”.[4]
Design
Power Dive’s vehicle was made to resemble a space shuttle.
