Lobster is a Polyp built by German manufacturer Schwarzkopf currently located at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, USA.

History

The ride was one of the many opening day attractions that debuted with the park in 1976. Under the name Lobster, It was located in the Yankee Harbor section.[1][2] The ride vehicles were originally painted orange, it features a sculpted gold lobster figure embedded onto the “octopus’s" head, and the ride’s foundation featured a giant painted lobster which remained until the 1990s.

In 1992, with the nearby addition of Batman The Ride, the ride was renamed East River Crawler and the cars were painted purple. In 2012, it was revealed that East River Crawler had been removed during the off season so all the rides pieces would undergo a major refurbishment. It was temporarily replaced by Porky’s Buzzy Bee’s for that season. In 2013, the ride would return. At the end of the 2016 season, East River Crawler and Jester's Wild Ride were removed to make room for the Joker in 2017, however East River Crawler would be relocated to Hometown Square and would replace another opening day attraction, the Orbit which had been retired after 40 seasons of operation.[3][4]

Some of Crawler's pieces were temporary used for the Six Saints Cemetery in 2016, a graveyard paying tribute to the park’s past attractions during Fright Fest as it underwent disassembly that fall. But unlike the Orbit and Jester’s Wild Ride which had headstones made that year, East River Crawler was not given one signifying its return for the next season. The cars would receive another repaint this time being black with gold stripes. The East River Crawler sign would then be used as a prop in the Six Saint’s Cemetery for the following Fright Fest events.

An identical attraction, opened at the park’s sister park Marriott's Great America in Santa Clara, California the same year it opened, however, California’s Lobster was an Eyerly Aircraft Monster ride.
