The tallest operational roller coaster at 456 feet tall was Kingda Ka from 2005 until its closure in 2024. The tallest operational coaster is Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point. Falcon's Flight is currently under construction and is the tallest coaster ever built.

The tallest operating wooden roller coasters are T Express at Everland and Wildfire at Kolmården both standing at 183.8 feet, however the defunct Son of Beast at Kings Island stood taller when it existed at 218 feet.
Lightning Rod at Dollywood has a 206 feet tall lift hill but the actual highest point relative to the ground is only 80 feet.
